Pair of 1970s floor lamps by German industrial designer Ingo Maurer.
Inspired by the soft, ambient glow of traditional Japanese Uchiwa fans, Maurer traveled to Japan to collaborate with Tatsuo Shigeki, whose family had crafted these fans for generations. This partnership resulted in a series of handcrafted lighting pieces that reinterpreted the Uchiwa fan.
Dubbed the "poet of light," Maurer designed the Uchiwa lamps using bamboo, wicker, paper, and lacquered metal.
Maurer’s Uchiwa lamps are a testament to his ability to honor tradition while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design.
